Subject: | International Childhood Cancer Day in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution designating February 15, 2019 as International Childhood Cancer Day in Pennsylvania. As the legislature continues to push other important pieces of legislation on this topic, and while I plan on continuing the tradition of also recognizing September as Pediatric Cancer Awareness month, International Childhood Cancer Day is another opportunity to refocus and renew our commitment to this important fight on behalf of our children. As I’ve shared before, despite the survival rate for pediatric cancer improving over the past few decades, the rate of children being diagnosed has increased and still remains the leading cause of death from disease among children. By continuing to promote awareness, we as a legislature can remind children and their families that we are standing with them in their fight both with cancer as well as with the long term effects cancer and cancer treatments have on their bodies. We should continue to use every opportunity to encourage the public to help support these families as well as emphasize innovation in research and treatment so that one day we can finally beat cancer and improve the quality of life for our children after they do so. I ask my colleagues to keep up the fight against pediatric cancer by co-sponsoring this resolution. |
