Subject: | Protecting the Identity of Human Trafficking Victims |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to amend Title 18 to provide more protection for human trafficking victims during the judicial process. Human trafficking can be incredibly destructive to the victim’s physical and mental health. It is important that our judicial system does not expose victims of human trafficking to revenge or further harm from their traffickers. This legislation will remove language in order to protect the victim’s identity and location from the offender. The name of the victim will not be disclosed to anyone by an officer or employee of the court unless under a court order. This will allow more victims to feel secure seeking legal action against their abusers. |
