Subject: | Funding for Tattoo Removal for Human Trafficking Victims |
Victims of human trafficking may be branded by their pimps/traffickers. This is to make them feel like the pimp’s property and allow the offenders to track their victims down if they do flee. The branding often comes in the form of distinct tattoos that are difficult to cover or hide. Even if the victims are freed from their pimp or trafficker, the tattoos still remain. This can expose the victims to future harm for revenge. They also remain a constant reminder to the victim of the horrible experiences they had to endure. The cost to remove the tattoos is very expensive and many victims cannot afford the removal. This legislation will create a fund that can be used by victims to pay for tattoo removal. This fund will be capped at $10,000 dollars per individual to ensure financial stability for the program. By helping to stop repeat human trafficking occurrences, we help ensure that victims can live fulfilling lives as productive members of society. |
