Subject: | Protecting Homeowners from Construction Accidents |
Pennsylvania has seen a rash of buildings impacted by a lack of sufficient structural support or safety measures in construction projects on adjoining properties. These failures have led to complete collapse of homes and businesses with no notice and extremely difficult determinations of fault and responsibility, often leaving owners with little recourse and hefty legal bills. With my colleague Representative Driscoll, I am introducing legislation which requires a contractor to purchase a surety bond of $500,000 which would be solely used to cover the costs of damages incurred during construction to residential adjoining property, such as a rowhome. A contract must show proof of bonding to the municipality before any permits could be issued. Please join me in protecting or constituents from the vagaries of unsafe construction practices. |
