Subject: | Testicular Cancer Awareness Month |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating April 2020 as “Testicular Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. Estimates from the American Cancer Society project that there will be nearly ten thousand newly diagnosed cases of testicular cancer in the United States this year alone. This means that approximately 1 in every 250 males will develop testicular cancer during their lifetime. Sadly, estimates also project that there will be roughly 450 related deaths this year. These numbers have steadily increased globally for several decades. Testicular cancer is disease that overwhelmingly affects young and middle-aged men. The average age of diagnosis is 33 years old but for those that detect their cancer early, there is a high rate of success with proper treatments. That is why medical professionals suggest monthly self-examinations. According to studies, men are less likely to schedule regular health examinations and to pursue self-examinations for a variety of common diseases. It is my hope that this resolution will serve as a reminder of how important it is to introduce these positive health-related habits into each of our lives. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
