Subject: Recognizing and Commemorating June 19th as Korean American Citizenship Day

In the near future, we will be introducing a resolution recognizing and commemorating the June 19th as Korean American Citizenship Day.

On June 19th, 1890, Philip Jaisohn became the first Korean immigrant to acquire United States citizenship and was established as a pioneer for Korean American History.

Philip Jaisohn, a Korean political refugee who made his home in Media, PA, made Philadelphia a central overseas base for supporting Korean independence. Inspired by the First and Second Continental Congress of the United States held in Philadelphia, Philip Jaisohn, Syngman Rhee, who is the first President of the Republic of Korea, and Han Kyong Chung organized the First Korean Congress in Philadelphia where they proclaimed Korean Declaration of Independence from April 14th to April 16th,1919.

June 19th, 2020 will mark 130 years since Philip Jaisohn paved the path for future Korean Americans. Therefore, we plan to commemorate this milestone and recognize the contributions of Korean Americans have had on this country and the Commonwealth.

Please join me in recognizing and commemorating June 19th as Korean American Citizenship Day.
