MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 13, 2020 04:03 PM
From: Senator Michele Brooks
To: All Senate members
Subject: Right-to-Know Law Reforms

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will make a number of changes to the Right-to-Know law.
Specifically, this legislation will aim to do the following:
  • Permit local and state agencies to charge search, review and duplication fees when responding to public record requests that are made for a commercial purpose, to include charges for staff time required to respond to those requests originating from outside the responding municipality;
  • Protect an individual’s personal financial information from disclosure; and
  • Limit an inmate’s access to information, in order to protect the law enforcement community as a whole.
This legislation addresses several priorities related to reforming the Right-to-Know Law identified by the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors.

I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation. Please don’t hesitate to contact my office with any questions.
