Subject: Extending Act 49 Judicial Fees
 
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to extend the sunset of the Act 49 judicial fees, set to expire December 31, 2020. First enacted in 2009, the Act 49 fee surcharge has provided important operations’ funding to Pennsylvania courts.  While the vast majority of financial support for the unified judicial system comes from the general fund, these filing fees help strike a fair balance between court users and taxpayers. In addition to helping to fund the courts’ operations, judicial user fees also support partial funding for legal aid services and district attorneys.
