Subject: | Designating September as Hunger Action Month in Pennsylvania |
Each of us can point to many wonderful examples of charity, grace, and personal assistance in our communities, especially over the past six months. One area of critical and basic need is an adequate food supply. In 2018, Pennsylvania’s food security rate was 10.9%, with 1.5 million Pennsylvanians struggling to put food on the table. During the COVID-19 pandemic, that number is expected to jump to 2 million residents. Our statewide food organizations, local food banks and pantries, farmers, faith community, businesses, neighbors, and government agencies are all working tirelessly to meet ongoing needs, as well as the challenges of the moment. Please join me in recognizing the good work being done across Pennsylvania to erase food insecurity while acknowledging that further action is needed, especially during this very difficult time. Designating September as Hunger Action Month in the Commonwealth will salute these important efforts while also highlighting the continued need found in all parts of the state. Thank you. |
