| Dear Colleagues, I am writing to request your support in honoring the remarkable contributions of Leo Rosenblum, a cherished member of our community, by renaming the 2700 block of Germantown Avenue "Leo Rosenblum Way." Leo Rosenblum's life is a testament to resilience, bravery, and community service. Having endured the unimaginable horrors of the Holocaust as a child, Leo became a resistance fighter against Hitler's German Army during World War II, where he courageously saved countless lives. After the war, Leo, like many immigrants, sought a new beginning and settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1954, Leo Rosenblum founded "Leo’s Men’s Apparel," a small clothing store that quickly became a vital part of the North Philadelphia community. By the early 1960s, Leo moved his business to its current location at 2705 Germantown Avenue, where it has stood as a beacon of entrepreneurship, perseverance, and hope for over 70 years. Leo’s Men and Boys Clothing Store, now managed by his son, Dave Rosenblum, continues to serve our community, upholding the values and vision of its founder. The store is more than just a business; it is a cornerstone of North Philadelphia, where people from all walks of life, including famous R&B groups and local politicians, have come to dress for success. It has also served as a training ground for aspiring entrepreneurs and fashion designers. The Rosenblum family has successfully carried on Leo’s legacy through three generations, ensuring his dream lives on and continues to enrich our community's culture and spirit. Leo Rosenblum's story is one of triumph over adversity, and his contributions to our community are immeasurable. Therefore, I am introducing legislation to rename the 2700 block of Germantown Avenue as "Leo Rosenblum Way" in recognition of his generation-spanning contributions to our community, his entrepreneurial spirit, and his lasting impact on the fabric of North Philadelphia. To honor Leo Rosenblum, I am introducing legislation to designate a portion of State Route 4005 (Germantown Ave) as the "Leo Rosenblum Way” This stretch of road passes by Leo’s Men’s Apparel which is his original business location for the last 70 years. I sincerely hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to honor Leo Rosenblum's legacy and commemorate his outstanding service to our community. Thank you for your consideration. |
