Subject: | Declaring “PA Libraries: Powering the Commonwealth” Day |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution to recognize October 9, 2024, as "PA Libraries: Powering the Commonwealth" Day. Libraries across Pennsylvania serve as vital community hubs, contributing significantly to the success and well-being of our residents.
Libraries are more than just places to borrow books. They promote the free exchange of information and ideas, serving as essential cornerstones of our democracy. By offering services and resources to individuals of all ages; backgrounds; and abilities, libraries play a crucial role in fostering literacy, education, and community engagement.
In addition to supporting basic literacy, libraries contribute to fiscal responsibility by providing materials and services to the entire community. They offer programs that promote financial literacy, health literacy, and civic engagement through initiatives such as the PA Forward framework. Moreover, libraries collaborate with schools, employers, and government agencies to empower individuals and enhance the quality of life across the Commonwealth.
As trusted and welcoming institutions, libraries offer opportunities for lifelong learning and personal growth. They provide a safe space for exploration, whether through access to technology, educational programming, community events, or simply a good book. The dedicated work of librarians and library staff helps transform lives by connecting individuals to the resources they need to succeed.
By recognizing October 9, 2024, as "PA Libraries: Powering the Commonwealth" Day, we honor the indispensable contributions that libraries and library workers make to our society. I invite you to join me in co-sponsoring this resolution to celebrate and support Pennsylvania's libraries as they continue to power our Commonwealth. |
