Allegheny County consists of 130 self-governing municipalities, making it the county with the most municipalities in the state. Some of these municipalities are facing issues when attempting to collect taxes, liens, and other fees that are owed on vacant or foreclosed properties. The collection of these fees is critical for communities to ensure they can maintain safe neighborhoods for our children, families, and neighbors. In an effort to combat this problem, I plan on introducing a bill that will give third class cities in second class counties the freedom to decide what the best protocol is to collect past due taxes and liens on foreclosed homes and other real property sales. These city governments will be given more autonomy to better serve the people of Pennsylvania. It is imperative that we give communities the tools they need to ensure that they have the ability to help redevelop parts of their cities and continue making Pennsylvania the best and safest place for every person. Please join me in showing our support for our local governments and the hard work they do to ensure our state is continuously improving. |
