Subject: | Veterans’ Educational Gratuity Program Improvements |
The increasing cost of a college education is wreaking havoc on the financial stability of Pennsylvania’s graduates, leaving them overburdened with seemingly endless amounts of debt. Veterans now represent a growing portion of these debt-saddled graduates. As the costs associated with receiving a college education rise year after year, we must do all we can to ensure programs designed specifically to provide the financial resources necessary for veterans and their families to attend college debt-free are readily available and free from unnecessary hurdles. To that end, I believe we should reduce the residency requirement for veterans and their families applying for the state Educational Gratuity Program to one year. This will ensure the program is able to fulfill its purpose and help the greatest number of our Commonwealth’s veterans. I ask that you please join me in co-sponsoring this timely and important legislation. |
