Subject: | Disclosure of Certain Information Regarding Dogs Offered for Sale at Pet Shops (Formerly HB 2238) |
While recent changes to the law have been a positive step forward in creating better conditions for dogs in breeding facilities, there is still more we can do to protect our furry friends. As of now, breeding facilities that provide dogs to pet shops provide little, if any, information about the health or genetic history of their dogs. In an effort to keep breeders honest about the health and welfare of the dogs they’re breeding, I will be re-introducing legislation that would require pet shops to include the following information on the cages of dogs that are offered for sale: the age of a dog; breeder licensing number; and documentation of a dog’s inoculations, worming treatments, and other medical treatments. Requiring more transparency and accountability from breeders would provide consumers with valuable information to help them make better-informed decisions regarding dog purchases. Keeping breeders honest and potential pet parents informed is crucial to protecting dogs in the Commonwealth. Please join me in this effort to further protect our four-legged family members. |
