Subject: | Recognizing the Importance of Mentorship on Pennsylvania’s Youth |
Reflect on your childhood for a moment and think of all the people that have had a profound impact on your life: a teacher, older sibling, family friend, religious leader, or perhaps a Scout leader. All of these people are mentors and provide a critical support for children and youth in Pennsylvania. Mentors have a positive long-term effect on children by improving academic engagement and performance, boosting confidence, building character, encouraging success, and decreasing the likelihood of substance abuse or other risky behaviors. Young people rely on mentors to guide them through periods of crucial development in their lives and to ensure they are making wise choices for their futures. That is why I am introducing a resolution recognizing the importance of mentor-mentee relationships as well as the important role organizations play in assisting these relationships throughout Pennsylvania. Please join me in showcasing how mentorships strengthen communities across the Commonwealth. |
