Subject: | Designating April 15, 2021 as "Jackie Robinson Day" in PA |
On April 15, 1947, Robinson became the first African American to play for a major league baseball team, being named Rookie of the Year. Over the course of his career, he also earned recognition as the first African American to win a batting title, lead the league in stolen bases, play in an All-Star game, play in the World Series, win an MVP award, and be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. To honor his achievements, Major League Baseball retired his number, #42. This resolution will designate April 15, 2021 as “Jackie Robinson Day” to honor him and his many achievements. Please join us on honoring the life and legacy of the late and great Jackie Robinson |
