MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 12, 2021 07:50 PM
From: Representative Nancy Guenst
To: All House members
Subject: Veteran Job Tax Credit

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, the 2018 unemployment rate for Pennsylvania’s veterans was 4.4%. With the current unemployment crisis caused by the pandemic, that number is likely much higher. We must ensure that our veterans have something worthwhile to come home to after bravely serving our country.

In order to best help our veterans, the federal government passed The Vow to Hire Heroes Act of 2011, which contains the Returning Heroes Tax Credit to provide incentives for businesses to hire unemployed veterans. My legislation is simple: it will supplement this federal program by providing an additional $2,000 tax credit from the Commonwealth for businesses already qualified under the federal act.

We all want to grow Pennsylvania’s economy and provide good jobs that pay real wages and real benefits. While our military men and women are fighting to protect the American way of life, we can fight for their successful transition back to civilian life.

We must stand up for a strong economy and a strong workforce. Veterans are a crucial component to this. Please join me in co-sponsoring this veteran workforce initiative.
