Subject: | Voter Pre-Registrationat the Age of 16 |
Did you know that tens of millions of Americans are not registered to vote? Now, more than ever in the history of our country, it is clear that we must work harder to engage young people to ensure the future of our democracy. They are the leaders of tomorrow and today is the time to get them involved in their future. One way to do this is to allow them to register early in upcoming elections. My legislation would allow young adults, age 16 years of age or older, to pre-register for the next election in which they are 18 and therefore eligible to vote. By allowing young people to pre-register, we are getting teens more involved in the democratic election process at an earlier age. The result will not only boost voting among the state's youth, but also make our democracy stronger. Please join me in making it easier for more young people to exercise their constitutional right to vote. |
