Subject: | Renaming the Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board to the Milk Regulation Board |
Senate Resolution 384 (2018 session) directed the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee (LBFC) to conduct a study on the past, present, and future issues impacting dairy producers and the dairy industry. In September 2019, the LBFC completed the study and issued a report with recommendations for improving the industry. One of the recommendations included in the study was to rename The Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board (PMMB). It was recommended that the PMMB be renamed the Pennsylvania Milk Control Board, which would more accurately reflect the duties and responsibilities of the Board. However, later discussions with the PMMB noted that while they do “control” certain aspects of the industry, that authority is better phrased as “regulatory”. Therefore, I am introducing legislation to rename the Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board to the Pennsylvania Milk Regulation Board. Please join me in co-sponsoring this name change. |
