Subject: | Prohibiting Firearm Sales for Suspected Terrorists |
The federal government uses a terrorist watchlist to monitor individuals or groups within the United States who may be intent on causing harm. Individuals who have been placed on the list are blocked from actions like air travel but are not prohibited from purchasing or possessing firearms. In multiple high profile mass shootings like the 2009 Fort Hood, TX shooting and the 2019 Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, FL, the perpetrators were on the radar of the federal government as potential terrorists, yet they were still able to legally purchase firearms. My legislation would remedy this major safety oversight by prohibiting individuals on federal watchlists from purchasing or possessing a firearm in Pennsylvania. Individuals who believe that they were wrongfully denied a firearm would be able to appeal the denial. We cannot sit idly by as residents of the Commonwealth are in danger of firearm violence perpetrated by terrorists. Please join me in co-sponsoring this vital piece of legislation to protect our friends, family, and neighbors. |
