MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 16, 2021 10:59 AM
From: Representative Aaron D. Kaufer
To: All House members
Subject: Protecting the Doctor-Patient Relationship with Insurance Companies

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would provide protections for providers from being dropped from insurance company networks without just cause.

Insurers contract with providers through networks in order to provide care to their members. Insurers may have the availability to drop providers from their network without cause for doing so, which can be harmful to patient care and disrupts the patient-doctor relationship.

My legislation would amend the Insurance Company Law to require that no insurer shall exclude or terminate a health care provider from participation in the network plan without just cause.
I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation.
