Subject: | Easy Health Insurance Enrollment |
More than 700,000 Pennsylvanians do not have health insurance. Almost 90% of these individuals have incomes above 100% of the federal poverty line and should be filing state personal income tax returns. These returns are opportunities to get more adults and children enrolled in health insurance coverage. Thus, I will be introducing legislation that will put a checkoff box on the personal income tax return. Individuals who check this box will have their eligibility evaluated for health insurance programs, such as premium tax credits. If an individual or their dependent is eligible, they will have an opportunity to enroll in health insurance. Several other states have established or are in the process of establishing these programs, which are known as “Easy Enrollment Programs.” If Pennsylvania created an easy enrollment program, an estimated 424,000 children and adults could enroll in coverage. This would cut our uninsured population by more than half. Please join me in getting more children and adults enrolled in health insurance coverage by sponsoring this legislation. |
