Subject: | Extending Protections for Victims of On-Campus Crime - It's on Us Campaign |
In partnership with the Governor’s “It’s on Us” campaign, I plan to introduce legislation that will extend protections for victims of crime on college campuses across the Commonwealth. Information and notification of rights and services following a traumatic event is critical to a victim’s wellbeing. Providing assistance to victims of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking helps victims understand of how trauma impacts their sense of safety and well-being. This proposal will require postsecondary institutions to provide written notification of rights, accommodations and protective measures to students and employees who may be victims of dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. In addition to providing this critical information, postsecondary institutions will be required to provide reasonably available protective accommodations if requested by the student, regardless if a police report is filed with campus police or other law enforcement. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to help protect victims of crime on college campuses |
