Subject: | Retired person reduced vehicle registration |
In the near future, we will be introducing legislation to increase the maximum income for a retired person to receive a reduced $10 vehicle registration. Under current law, a person who is retired and receiving social security or any other pension and whose total annual income does not exceed $19,200 may register their vehicle at a reduced $10 fee. Unfortunately, the maximum annual income has not been increased since 1998, which is why my legislation would increase this amount to $29,906. The increase to $29,906 is consistent with the rate of inflation that has occurred since 1998. Furthermore, this legislation would allow this new maximum annual income amount to be adjusted annually according to the CPI-U. I hope you will join us in cosponsoring this legislation that will ensure our income criteria for reduced vehicle registrations for seniors properly reflects the rate of inflation. |
