Subject: | Protecting Firearms Purchase Data |
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that will prohibit the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) from sharing any information relating to firearms purchases that occur in this Commonwealth with any individual or entity, including the federal government. Under this legislation, such information may only be shared when the firearms purchaser, transferee, or applicant is subject to a criminal prosecution and the information may be used as evidence in that prosecution. Our constituency has been vocal in their concerns that the federal government will recklessly attempt to strip them of their constitutional right to bear arms. I believe this legislation represents a critical first step in ensuring that the federal government does not gain access to any records concerning firearms purchases or ownership, which would pose a significant threat to our democracy and our Second Amendment freedoms. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to better protect our Commonwealth residents and defend their constitutional rights. |
