Subject: | Opening of Schools after the Labor Day Holiday |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation amending the Public School Code of 1949 to require that Pennsylvania school districts begin their school year after Labor Day. This legislation would require school districts to begin their academic year no earlier than the day after Labor Day. A waiver to this rule may be granted by the Secretary of Education if extenuating circumstances exist, such as a natural disaster or major construction. Please join me in co-cosponsoring this legislation, so we can ensure that Pennsylvania families get all the benefits of a full, traditional summer vacation while not negatively impacting the education of students. |
