Subject: | Modernization of Private Driver Education Act |
Pennsylvania had over 100,000 motor vehicle accidents in 2020 that claimed the lives of 1,129 of our neighbors. To prevent these tragedies, we must ensure that qualified and reputable driving instructors are educating future motorists. The Private Driver Education Act has not been updated since 1952 and it is long overdue. For this reason, I am introducing legislation to provide a much-needed modernization of the Private Driver Education Act. Any person looking to a provide driver education service must be licensed by the Department of Education and provide clear descriptions of their courses offered. It will also raise the age of an eligible driving instructor from 18 to 21. These updates are critical to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers and prevent more car accidents, injuries, and deaths. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
