Subject: | Eliminate An Out-dated Law, The Waiting Period for a Marriage License (Moul prior HB 1302, 2015-2016) |
In the near future, I will introduce legislation to eliminate the waiting period for a marriage license in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania currently has a three-day waiting period. This time period made sense when the parties had to undergo a blood test for syphilis. That test is no longer required under Pennsylvania law. Pennsylvania would benefit economically from those couples who would like to return to their home state to marry but have a limited amount of time. A no-waiting period could incentivize them to make that choice. They would be using local wedding venders, and their out-of-town guests would be spending money at local hotels, restaurants, shops, etc. Over twenty states, including Alabama, Connecticut, Colorado, Georgia, Montana, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Utah, have no waiting period for a marriage license. I hope you will join me in supporting this legislation. |
