Subject: | Urging the Federal Government to Reevaluate and Raise the Federal Mileage Reimbursement Rate |
Like many other states, Pennsylvania uses the federal mileage reimbursement rate to reimburse state employees and Commonwealth travelers who must travel to conduct official business. Even though the average price of gasoline has spiked during the last three months, these individuals have continued to serve all Pennsylvanians in ensuring our government and its services remain efficient while so many others are able to telework and provide services remotely. Although these public servants are reimbursed partially, it is still not enough to account for the increased financial strain brought on by higher gasoline prices. Because of this, I plan on introducing a resolution urging the United States General Services Administration to reevaluate and raise the federal mileage reimbursement rate. The rate established by the federal government was reassessed in January – months before the current crisis at the pump unfolded; additionally, among the factors that are considered in the federal government’s analysis, the average price of gasoline is one of them. Today, the average price of gasoline in Pennsylvania has risen over a dollar more than it was last year. As elected representatives, we owe it to the many employees and Commonwealth travelers who work on behalf of the state to ensure that they are appropriately supported. Please join me in urging the federal government to reevaluate and raise the federal mileage reimbursement rate. Your consideration is greatly appreciated. |
