Subject: Increasing Medicaid Reimbursement for Hospitals – Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Healthcare Access and Stabilization Program

Recently, North Carolina submitted a request to the federal government (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Healthcare Access and Stabilization Program) for additional funds that would allow the state to provide enhanced payments under the state’s Medicaid program to eligible hospitals. To similarly take advantage of all available federal funds for Pennsylvania hospitals, I am introducing legislation to authorize our Department of Human Services to follow the same process taken by North Carolina. This bill will create a similar statewide program for eligible hospitals to receive enhanced funds via the federal government coupled with our existing hospital assessments. The enhanced funds would be used to increase the reimbursement to Pennsylvania hospitals when providing care to Medicaid patients.

It is critical that we as legislators improve access to quality, affordable health care for all. Taking advantage of all available funding for our hospitals is just one way that we can work to achieve this goal.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to help Pennsylvania’s hospitals access federal funding.
