Subject: | RADAR for Local Law Enforcement |
In the near future, I intend to re-introduce legislation in which I have been a long-time proponent and Prime Sponsor, Senate Bill 607 of 2019, providing for the use of RADAR by Local Law Enforcement. Radar technology was developed prior to and during World War II and radar speed guns were introduced into the marketplace in the 1950’s. All states but Pennsylvania permit their local police to use radar for monitoring traffic speed. In Pennsylvania, only the State Police are currently authorized to use radar. It is ironic that we don’t allow municipal police to utilize radar, however, we do allow certain municipalities to utilize red light camera systems. I plan to introduce legislation that would finally permit all municipal police to utilize radar for speed enforcement. This legislation will include changes which were made last session:
Senate Bill 607 of 2019 sponsors included: MARTIN, BROWNE, MENSCH, BARTOLOTTA, BREWSTER, AUMENT, BLAKE, YUDICHAK, SCHWANK, COSTA, HAYWOOD, BAKER, FARNESE, SANTARSIERO, MUTH, KEARNEY, DINNIMAN, L. WILLIAMS, KILLION, STEFANO, COLLETT and IOVINO If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Christine Zubeck in my office at 717-787-6123 or czubeck@pasen.gov. Thank you for your consideration. |
