Subject: | DESIGNATING MAY 2021 AS "STROKE AWARENESS MONTH" IN PENNSYLVANIA |
Please join me in co-sponsoring a resolution designating the month of May as “Stroke Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. According to the Center for Disease Control, strokes are the fifth leading cause of death overall and the fourth leading cause of death among women in the United States. One in three Americans have at least one of the following conditions: High blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity, and diabetes, all of which are leading causes of strokes. On average, one American dies from a stroke every four minutes. Knowing the warning signs and symptoms of a stroke is critical as early action is key to minimizing the severity and damaging effects of strokes, possibly saving a life. In May, and year-round, I am encouraging those in the Commonwealth to memorize F. A. S. T. :
