Subject: | Resolution Designating "PIAA Officials Appreciation Weeks" in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution to designate the week of October 3rd through October 9, 2021, January 9th through January 15, 2022 and April 3rd through April 9, 2022 as "PIAA Officials Appreciation Weeks” in Pennsylvania. October 3rd through 9th will mark the first of three “PIAA Officials Appreciation Weeks” taking place this year, with one week in each sports’ season dedicated to acknowledging and celebrating the contributions made by PIAA officials. The appreciation week for winter sports officials will take place from January 9th through 15th, and the appreciation week for spring officials will be April 3rd through 9th. Most officials work their full-time day jobs, run home to grab a quick bite to eat and change, and then are on the road again to head directly to officiate an inter scholastic game, somewhere across the Commonwealth. The next morning, they wake up and do it all over again. They do it because they love the game, they believe in educational-based athletics, and they want to be involved with Pennsylvania’s student-athletes. Officiating is a very difficult job, considering the pressure officials are under in making the correct calls while the teams are in action and the fans are rooting on opposing sides. Having “PIAA Officials Appreciation Weeks” will let officials know how thankful we are, because having a game, especially where the rules are followed, would not be possible without them. Please join me in sponsoring this resolution to acknowledge and thank our PIAA Officials from across this great Commonwealth! |
