Subject: | Improvements to the Tuition Account Program (TAP) |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to improve the Tuition Account Program (TAP). Last year, Pennsylvanians contributed $732 million to over 265,000 TAP accounts. This is an increase of more than 25,000 accounts – one of the most successful years in the program’s 30-year history. Given this increase, it is paramount the process for disbursing funds is modernized to ensure the colleges and career schools receive their funds timely and efficiently. Currently, most students have to wait to receive their check in the mail, causing late payment to their college or career school. My legislation would require the Pennsylvania Treasurer to disburse the funds electronically directly to the college or career school. The account owner would still have the ability to receive a check but the default method would be electronic. This will streamline the process for those who participate in the program as well as the colleges and career schools with students utilizing the program. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
