Subject: | Disability Awareness Month |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating the month of March 2022 as "Disabilities Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. A disability can affect someone from any age, race, or background, whether it be from birth or from an event that led to it. In America, one in four adults have some form of disability, and in Pennsylvania, 23.9% of adults have some form of disability. Even with these statistics, not everyone is aware of the issues that people with disabilities face. Despite there being protections for this group at the federal and state level, they still face discrimination in the workforce, lack of public accommodations, and other day-to-day activities. This resolution will bring awareness to these issues and help get everyone involved in the conversation about finding solutions. Please join me in sponsoring this important resolution and help make Pennsylvania a better place to live for everyone, regardless of their abilities. |
