MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 6, 2022 10:14 AM
From: Senator Scott E. Hutchinson
To: All Senate members
Subject: Condolence Resolution for former Senator Charles Timothy “Tim” Shaffer

In the near future I plan to introduce a condolence resolution honoring the life and work of former State Senator Charles Timothy “Tim” Shaffer of Prospect, Butler County, who passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at the age of 76 years old. Senator Shaffer represented the 21st Senatorial District from 1981-1996, during which time he served as chair of the Senate Community and Economic Development Committee; vice-chair of the Senate Urban Affairs and Housing, and Senate Judiciary Committees; member of the Senate Aging and Youth, Senate Appropriations, Senate Banking and Insurance, Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure, Senate Law and Justice, and Senate State Government Committees; and was a member of the Senate Impeachment Committee of Justice Rolf Larsen in 1994.

Prior to his time in the Senate, Senator Shaffer served our country honorably in the United States Army from 1967-1970 in Vietnam, where he obtained the rank of 1st Lieutenant. In 1969, while serving as platoon leader in the U.S. Signal Corps, he was awarded the Bronze Star. Following his military service Senator Shaffer served as Butler County Solicitor from 1976-1978. He was also nominated and served as Butler County Magisterial District Judge in 2010 until his retirement in 2015.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this condolence resolution to honor the life of this public servant and former colleague.

Introduced as SR314
