Subject: | Designating September 2022 as Hunger Action Month in Pennsylvania |
In the coming days, we will be introducing a resolution that recognizes September 2022 as “Hunger Action Month” in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It has become all too common for families to have to make the tough decision between buying food and paying for housing, medicine, or childcare. Over 2 million Pennsylvanians, including over 500,000 children, live in lower income areas with limited access to a local grocery store and healthy food. Access to quality food is paramount to everyone’s health and well-being, and no one should be faced with the decision to eat dinner or keep the lights on. Inadequate food and chronic nutrient deficiencies have long lasting effects on a person’s life and health, including risks for chronic diseases, increased healthcare costs, and poorer health overall. As we recover from the public health and economic crises, we must do everything we can to ensure that all families have equitable access to food. Please join us in standing up to hunger and bringing awareness to an issue that impacts millions of Pennsylvanians every day. |
