Subject: | Establishing the Recent Veteran Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program |
Each day, our service men and women make the sacrifice to serve and protect our country. However, many face barriers when they make the transition to civilian life after their service. Some veterans struggle financially upon leaving active duty due to becoming ineligible for financial support systems provided for those actively serving in the armed forces, such as affordable housing. Barriers such as these often lead to veteran homelessness, where an estimated 33,136 veterans were homeless in 2022. No veteran should experience homelessness or financial hardship after their service. That is why I will be introducing legislation to establish the recent veteran property tax and rent rebate program. Modeled off the Pennsylvania program for seniors, this program would provide recent veterans with household incomes up to $35,000 with some much-earned financial relief. Not only would this program help reduce veteran homelessness in Pennsylvania, but it may also attract recent veterans to stay in or move to our state. Our veterans deserve to live happy, healthy, and stable lives. I hope you will join me in helping our heroes by providing the needed financial support systems to help their transition after active service and end veteran homelessness in Pennsylvania. |
