Subject: | Digital Wallet Notification |
Each year technology gets a major upgrade loaded with new features and tools to make our lives easier. Today, we have the ability to access almost everything at our fingertips. We can receive and respond to emails, pay for transportation and everyday items with our cell phones and computers through such technology as a digital wallet. Digital wallets afford us the opportunity to make purchases anywhere the contactless pay symbol is available. This includes online purchases, in-app purchases, and the convenience of accessing an ATM. As the use of digital wallets become more mainstream, it is imperative that they are protected from predators who wait to exploit design flaws and the vulnerable. It is for this reason, that I have decided to propose legislation that would include digital wallets in the Breach of Personal Information Notification Act. By doing so, we will ensure that Pennsylvanians are notified as soon as possible if their digital wallets have been hacked, and that they can begin to take steps to safeguard any other electronic data that may have been exposed due to the hack, and can start the process of repairing any damage. I hope that you will join me in co-sponsoring this proposal. (Prior HB 2285) Prior Co-Sponsors: T. DAVIS, KINSEY, NEILSON, SCHLOSSBERG, SANCHEZ, CIRESI, HILL-EVANS AND D. WILLIAMS |
