House of Representatives
Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 12, 2022 09:40 AM
From: Representative Malcolm Kenyatta and Rep. Melissa L. Shusterman
To: All House members
Subject: Consumer Data Protection

Look closely at the devices we rely on every day: smartphones, smart TVs, laptops, tablets, home assistant devices, and automobiles – all crucial to our daily lives.  When conducting business online or shopping for our families, how much personal data is being captured and how is it being used or shared?

My legislation will ensure the proper management of personal data, allowing consumers the access they need to monitor their data, correct discrepancies and transact online transactions safely.  Companies would be required to provide clear privacy notices disclosing what personal data is shared and giving consumers the choice to opt-out.

Pennsylvania consumers have a right to the details on when, why and how their data is being used.  Just like medical or financial record accessibility, everyone deserves the right to access their personal data to stay well-informed on its collection and dissemination.

Creating the strongest protections for consumer data is imperative in the technological world of today.  Please join with me in establishing these elevated protections for the good of all Pennsylvanians.

Introduced as HB708
