Subject: | Discrimination based on Marital Status and Family Caregiver Status |
A person’s homelife should not be a determining factor regarding employment, housing, or public accommodations. They should be able to have a career of their choice or purchase a home without being discriminated against based on their marital status or family caregiver status. My legislation will amend Act 222 of 1955 (Pennsylvania Human Relations Act) by prohibiting discrimination based on marital status and family caregiver status. It will also prohibit employers from asking a job applicant if they have children or if they plan to have children. Such questions are inappropriate and should not be used in the hiring process. It is the General Assembly’s responsibility to protect all Pennsylvanians against discrimination and provide equal opportunity, regardless of marital status or family caregiver status. Please join me in fulfilling that responsibility by co-sponsoring this bill. |
