MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 1, 2023 03:13 PM
From: Representative Ryan E. Mackenzie
To: All House members
Subject: Jury Duty and Voter Roll Cross Reference

I will soon be introducing legislation to improve the accuracy and integrity of our voter registration records through a simple and effective cross-reference with the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania.

When an individual called for jury duty claims ineligibility for service due to status as a non-citizen, it creates an opportunity to cross-check our voter registration records to ensure that individual is not registered to vote. Currently, we do not take advantage of this opportunity. My legislation would require each County Board of Elections to enter into an agreement with the Judicial System to receive a record of any individual claiming ineligibility for jury duty as a non-citizen, and to investigate the registration status of any such person who is a registered elector.

Please join me in sponsoring this common sense reform.
