Subject: | Providing for Restroom Access for Certain Customers of Retail Establishments |
We have all had the alarming feeling of being in a retail establishment and urgently needing a restroom, only to be denied access. This is a constant threat to Pennsylvanians with Crohns disease, ulcerative colitis, Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD) and other digestive conditions on a daily basis. Recently, these embarrassing accidents and struggles were brought to my attention by a constituent. My legislation would require retail establishments to allow customers with these digestive diseases to use “employee only” restrooms during normal business hours when certain conditions apply. Further, this permission could help prevent possible risks to public health. For these individuals, immediate access to restroom facilities is critical. By permitting these individuals restroom access, we provide them the assistance they need while maintaining their dignity in avoiding an embarrassing public accident. We can provide a better quality of life for Pennsylvanians living with these challenging conditions. I ask you to join me in supporting this legislation. |
