Subject: | Modernizing Pennsylvania's energy grid |
While nearly every home in Pennsylvania relies on electricity, our state has outdated energy infrastructure at a time when the fast-changing energy market has begun utilizing modern equipment and relying more on renewable energy sources. Upgrading our energy infrastructure is important because the expansion of energy grids and the increased use of renewable energy depend on each other. Updated energy grids allow for remote communication with energy providers, automatic reporting of power outages, and more reliable tracking of consumer usage, all which benefits both energy providers and the consumers. Pennsylvania cannot get left behind in the changing times, which is why I will be introducing legislation that would direct the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) to establish a grid modernization plan that includes standards for energy providers regarding grid improvements, with attention on the financial impact an improved grid would have on consumers. This plan would include full implementation of smart meters and consideration for the increased reliance on renewable energy sources. Please join me in ensuring that Pennsylvania’s energy infrastructure can accommodate the changing energy market and meet the demands of our usage of electricity for years to come. |
