MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 23, 2023 02:15 PM
From: Representative Malcolm Kenyatta and Rep. Carol Hill-Evans, Rep. Aerion Abney
To: All House members
Subject: Recognizing March 2023 as National Social Work Month in Pennsylvania

Approximately 700,000 social workers are working nationwide and 100,000 more are expected to enter the profession by 2030. Every day, social workers positively touch the lives of the people around them through their dedication to empowering individuals, families, and communities to overcome issues that prevent them from reaching their full potential.

The breadth of their reach is felt nationwide in our schools, hospitals, military, child welfare agencies, community centers, and in all levels of government. They improve our communities by such acts as assisting veterans' reentry into civilian life, strengthening struggling families, and helping individuals access the treatments they need to improve their lives.

In March 2023, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is celebrating Social Work Month by highlighting how social workers have enriched our society by empowering people and communities to overcome hurdles that prevent them from living life to the fullest. The theme for 2023 is “Social Work Breaks Barriers.” Correspondingly, I will be offering a resolution to recognize March as “National Social Work Month” in Pennsylvania.

I hope you will join me in recognizing the crucial role these professionals have in improving our lives and communities by co-sponsoring this resolution.
