Subject: | Paraprofessionals to Teachers Grant Program |
As we look for ways to address the current teacher shortage, I plan to introduce legislation establishing The Paraprofessionals to Teachers Grant Program. This grant program will provide funds to institutions of higher education to create or expand educational programs and course offerings that serve as pathways for paraprofessionals to become certified teachers. The educational programs will be designed to be flexible, allowing paraprofessionals to remain employed while in the program. Institutions of higher education will also be required to use a portion of the grant money to provide a discounted tuition or additional financial aid to paraprofessionals enrolled in the program. Paraprofessionals play an important role in our educational community and are well positioned to help address the current teacher shortage. The Paraprofessional to Teacher Grant Program will encourage institutions of higher education to offer alternative and cost-effective pathways for paraprofessionals to return to school and earn their teacher certification. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
