MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 18, 2023 03:42 PM
From: Representative Paul Takac
To: All House members
Subject: Veterans Registry Bill

The Veterans Registry was established within the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) in 2017 to help connect veterans and their families with information about federal, state, and local government benefits, programs, and services available to them.

We intend to introduce legislation that would amend Title 51 (Military Affairs) to provide for additional community outreach services to help ensure that all veterans are aware of the resources that are available to them. Specifically, this legislation would provide for information collected under the Veterans Registry to be transmitted to County Directors of Veterans Affairs and be used by DMVA’s PA VETConnect program for community outreach services.

PA VETConnect offers assistance in determining the needs of veterans, as well as their families and beneficiaries, and connects them with available resources. PA VETConnect has access to information that can assist County Directors of Veterans Affairs and other veteran advocates in providing services to veterans and those close to them regarding issues such as employment, financial assistance, substance use, mental wellness, and post-traumatic stress.

The Commonwealth should do all it can to properly serve those who served us. With that in mind, we believe it is imperative that information collected under the voluntary Veterans Registry be shared with County Directors of Veterans Affairs and PA VETConnect to further ensure that our state’s veterans are provided with information regarding resources that are available to better assist them and their families.

Please join us in sponsoring this important legislation.
