Subject: | Copayment Adjustment Program Limits |
As we all know, the costs of prescription drugs in our country continue to remain exorbitant and often lead Pennsylvanians to go without treatment because they cannot afford the out-of-pocket costs. Some drug manufacturers provide coupons to patients to offset initial costs when purchased at a pharmacy. In recent years, many health insurers have declined to count these costs toward annual deductibles or out-of-pocket costs even when a generic drug is not available. This is known as copay adjustment programs. My bill will rectify this issue by banning the use of copay adjustment programs except when there is a generic equivalent available to patients. Pennsylvanians should not be penalized for the conditions they have and the lack of prescription drugs and generics available for treatment for those conditions. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to protect patients who do not have alternative options and are facing costs that they cannot pay. |
