Subject: | Regulatory Review Commission for Behavioral and Mental Health Services |
Thanks to anti-stigma campaigns, more people are seeking mental and behavioral health care in Pennsylvania. This is good. The more people who are treated, the more people get to live a quality life. However, for many people who see such help, they are finding it more difficult to find someone who can deliver the services they need. Pennsylvania’s mental and behavioral health providers work tirelessly to provide their patients with compassionate care to meets their needs. These providers are also struggling with a myriad of issues, ranging from lack of funding, high-staff turnover, and demand for services higher than what they can meet. A repeated challenge many providers often identify is onerous regulations and unnecessary administrative burdens which hinder their ability to provide care to the people who need it most. In turn, this undercuts patient access to these services and less people are helped. To that end, I will be introducing legislation to establish the Regulatory Review Commission for Behavioral and Mental Health Services. Its primary task will be to identify which regulations are necessary for patient protection and which are an undue burden, preventing mental and behavioral health care providers from delivering effective care. I truly believe it is possible to ensure patients receive the protections they deserve while ensuring efficient delivery of quality care. Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation to improve access and remove barriers to mental and behavioral health care services in Pennsylvania. |
