Subject: | Innovation Hub Network |
Local businesses and self-employed entrepreneurs are growing more numerous every year and are providing the public with great new discoveries and innovations. It is essential that we as the General Assembly create environments where these innovators and entrepreneurs can collaborate, start a business, and then grow that Pennsylvania business into a leader in their industry. My legislation will create the Innovation Hub Network, designed to redevelop abandoned or underused property and repurpose it into office spaces for young entrepreneurs and start-up companies. This concept has been used in other states and in Europe. The Innovation Hubs will provide communal spaces where entrepreneurs, academics, researchers, business leaders, and other stakeholders can convene and collaborate to create, expand, and maintain technology, business applications, and other entrepreneurial pursuits. The Department of Community and Economic Development shall administer the grant program and organize Pennsylvania’s counties into 10 regions based on geographic density, employment, need for industry innovation, and connection to institutions of higher education. These regions will then have the ability to develop their Innovation Hub through the grant program created by this act. Please join me in supporting Pennsylvania innovators by providing them with the space they need to create new and exciting businesses and innovations for the Pennsylvania economy by co-sponsoring this bill. |
